The AI-era case
The next booking channel is a conversation.
Every era of dive-travel booking rewarded the operators who moved first. This is the case for moving now — before the defaults are set.
Discovery is already AI-mediated.
For twenty years, being found meant ranking on Google and earning the click. Now people ask an assistant and take the answer. The click-through economy is halving, and assistants read far more than they refer — being readable to them is the whole game.
Transactions are next. The rails are being laid now.
Consumer volume through agents is still early — and that is the point. Standards, defaults and partner lists are being set today. The time to be bookable is before agents choose who they can book with.

Why some of the web says no — and why dive centers should say yes.
Attention businesses
Publishers, ad-funded content
- Revenue is the visit: ads, subscriptions, affiliate clicks
- The AI answer substitutes for the visit — only 1% of users click cited sources
- "Being the source" earns them nothing
- Blocking is rational negotiating leverage: Reddit, News Corp and AP blocked, then signed paid deals
Transaction businesses
Dive centers, tours, bookings
- Revenue is the booking: a course or a fun dive
- Nothing is earned from a page view anyway
- An agent that books you is a channel, not a parasite
- Being the answer is free customer acquisition — while today's discovery costs 20–30% in OTA commission
Blocking AI would mean invisibility in the fastest-growing discovery channel, while still paying commission to the old one. The rational posture for a dive center is maximum openness, while it's still free.
AI is built for the way divers actually shop.
Dive bookings are high-consideration and constraint-heavy, in a destination the customer doesn't know. Exactly what people now ask an assistant instead of opening twelve tabs.
"We're two certified divers going to Hurghada in August. I want my Advanced course taught in English, my partner wants three days of boat diving, and our 12-year-old wants to try diving for the first time. Who should we book with?"
To answer, the agent must know — from your data:
- Courses, prerequisites and current prices
- Schedules and live availability in August
- Languages of instruction
- Minimum ages and family options
- Dive sites, conditions, boat versus shore
- Reviews, safety record, affiliations
The agent recommends whoever it can read, verify and book. Everyone else doesn't exist in the conversation.
Where dive centers stand today.
Most are not ready, which is the opportunity: the shops that become readable and bookable first are the ones assistants learn to recommend.
